High Energy neutrino signals from the First Stars

چکیده
We perform a new estimate of the high energy neutrinos expected from GRBs associated with the first generation of stars in light of new models and constraints on the epoch of reionization and a more detailed evaluation of the neutrino emission yields. In disagreement with most optimistic results in previous literature, we find that high energy neutrinos from Population III stars will not be observable with current or near future neutrino telescopes. This rules them out as a viable diagnostic tool for these still elusive metal-free stars. We also perform an estimate of the flux at Earth of neutrinos from Dark Matter annihilation in the recently proposed “Dark Stars” obtaining equally negative results; in particular the very low peakenergies of this flux buries it several orders of magnitude below the atmospheric ones. Similar considerations (with different backgrounds) apply to the gamma-ray background by DM annihilation.

High Energy Neutrino Signals from the Epoch of Reionization
In this paper we perform a new estimate of the high energy neutrinos expected from GRBs associated with the first generation of stars in light of new models and constraints on the epoch of reionization and a more detailed evaluation of the neutrino emission yields. We also compare the diffuse high energy neutrino background from Population III stars with the one from “ordinary stars” (Populatio...
متن کاملGamma Ray Bursts from the First Stars: Neutrino Signals
If the first (PopIII) stars were very massive, their final fate is to collapse into very massive black holes. Once a proto-black hole has formed into the stellar core, accretion continues through a disk. It is widely accepted, although not confirmed, that magnetic fields drive an energetic jet which produces a burst of TeV neutrinos by photon-meson interaction, and eventually breaks out of the ...
متن کاملTeV-PeV Neutrinos from Giant Flares of Magnetars and the Case of SGR 1806-20
We estimate the high energy neutrino flux from the giant flare of SGR 180620 on December 27, 2004, which irradiated Earth with a gamma-ray flux ∼ 10 times larger than the most luminous gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) ever detected. The Antarctic Cherenkov neutrino detector AMANDA was on-line during the flare, and may either have detected high energy neutrinos for the first time from a cosmic point sour...
متن کاملMassive stars and high-energy neutrinos
Massive stars have been associated with the production of high-energy neutrinos since the early claims of detection of very high-energy gamma rays from Cygnus X-3 in the 1970s and early 1980s. Although such claims are now discredited, many thoretical models were developed predicting significant neutrino fluxes from binary systems with massive stars. With the discovery of microquasars, new, impr...
متن کاملProbing the neutrino mass hierarchy and the 13-mixing with supernovae
We consider in details the effects of the 13-mixing (sin θ13) and of the type of mass hierarchy/ordering (sign[∆m13]) on neutrino signals from the gravitational collapses of stars. The observables (characteristics of the energy spectra of νe and ν̄e events) sensitive to sin θ13 and sign[∆m 2 13] have been calculated. They include the ratio of average energies of the spectra, rE ≡ 〈E〉/〈Ē〉, the ra...
